'One' by Metallica

Oh wow -

It has been almost a month since I have stopped by.

No excuses. I just have a helluva lot going on in my life right now.

13 classes stand between me and a Bachelor's degree in accounting. These last classes are homework-intensive, and the posting requirements are more demanding than the first couple years of classes.

I have been working on 'Cooked' as time allows, which is not as much as I like, but more than I was for a while there. I have even started throwing chapters to the crit folks on Critique Circle. So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

It gives me hope.

Home repairs will start soon. The company I work for kicks ass, and while other companies are experiencing layoffs, we were just rewarded with a huge-ass bonus for our performance last year as employees. And since the hubby works there as well - we get two. :0) So first the basement, then the driveway. And if there is enough left over, we are going to start tucking away bits here and there to renovate the kitchen and replace the fence in the backyard.

Can't wait!

So, I am off to write, write, write!

Then homework, homework, homework - barf.

Later, all.

Not Much Happening...

'Love Locked Down' by Kanye West

Just a hit-and-run sort of post tonight. Homework (once again) is overwhelming my life, but I have managed to get in some writing here and there. Not as much as I would like, though.

So I updated the word count on 'Cooked' and I am going to crawl back into my hole that is my office and try and finish my final for my current class.

Wish me luck. :0)

Later, all.

'Move Out' by Yaz

Doesn't this just say it all?

Since when, exactly, is it the taxpayer's responsibility to bail out a business that couldn't properly do business in the first place?

Hmm....

I recommend you contact your state senators and tell them a big fat NO on the auto bailout.

They don't deserve it.

'Rockstar' by Nickleback

Not a whole lot going on right now.

We got Christmas bonuses at work - the equivilant of 2 weeks' pay - so Christmas is taken care of. (The hubby and I both work for the same company, so we get two of everything - WooHoo!)

My kids are awesome, and sooo cute when they are trying to wheedle their dad and I into buying lots of crap for Christmas presents. (No boys, you are soooo not getting a Wii and an XBox 360 and 20 games for each - Yeesh!)

I don't have the heart to tell them I find them adorable but their begging just doesn't work on me - it never has. Their dad on the other hand, now he's just a big ole' softie.

That's what I get for marrying a big teddy bear of a man.

I have been working on 'Cooked' as time permits, but the last bit feels wrong. I mean, I like the scenes and there are some lines I love, but it just doesn't seem to jive well right now. I haven't updated the word count in a bit because I am still deciding on whether or not to delete the lot of the new stuff. Right now though, I am leaning towards keeping it and seeing if there are bits and pieces I can use here and there later on.

We'll see.

Well, enough of that. I have two papers to finish for school this weekend, shopping to finish, and fingernails to have attended to at the salon. They look like claws right now - oh my.
Later, all.

'Jump, Jive N' Wail' by The Brian Setzer Orchestra

It's been snowing all day.
It's cold.
It's windy.
The low tonight will be about 5 degrees above zero. (for now).

Winter has definitely set in. Finally.

This time of year, right after Turkey day, after the first big snowfall of the season, my mind always turns to what the next year might bring.

Last year, I had only been at my new job for just a few months.
Last year, my brother-in-law was still alive.
Last year, my parents hadn't yet made the decision to pack it in, retire, and haul ass to the
warmer climes of Arizona.
Last year, I didn't have a child in high school.
Last year, an African-American man hadn't been elected President of the United States.
Last year, I was wondering why I was bothering with finishing school.

This coming year, I have to wonder what will be next.

Will I finish my second novel before next December? What about family? Will I lose yet another person I love? Will I get to see my best friend Kim in person next year?

Anyway, as you can see, my thoughts tend to get quite maudlin the closer Christmas and New Year's eve approach.

However.

What I do know -

My husband will still love me despite my hundreds (& hundreds) of flaws. (hundreds-seriously)
My kids rock.
My job rocks.
I will finish school.
I will continue to write every spare moment I can eke out.

Oh - and the Broncos will miss yet another Superbowl.

But there's always next season.

Later, all.
